Mumbai, (Maharashtra) [India], 28th October 2024: The wastage of edible items is a pressing issue affecting Indian households and businesses alike. According to the UN Environment Programme’s latest report, the per capita food wastage in India stands at 55 kg per year, while over 13% of the population suffers from malnutrition. This stark contrast highlights a serious issue that requires collective action from all sections of society.
In response, Ram Bandhu, a leading food products brand, has partnered with the volunteer-based surplus food redistribution organization, Robin Hood Army, to launch the noble “Stop Food Wastage Movement.” This initiative aims to raise awareness among the Indian populace about the importance of preventing food wastage.
As part of this campaign, Ram Bandhu has released a thought-provoking short film titled “Ek Vichaar.” The film features a compelling storyline that underscores the disparity between food wastage and hunger, prompting viewers to reflect on their consumption and disposal of food. It portrays a typical Indian household where young children often waste food without grasping its significance, ultimately delivering a powerful message about preventing food wastage.
Organizations like Robin Hood Army play a crucial role in channeling surplus food to those in need. The film highlights that simple acts, such as donating leftovers to local charities or feeding stray animals, can significantly impact this often-overlooked issue.
Mr. Bhanudas Gundkar, marketing head of Empire Spices & Foods Ltd. (ESFL), the parent company of Ram Bandhu, stated, “As one of the leading food FMCG brands, we felt it was our responsibility to spotlight the prevalent issue of food wastage in society and propose practical solutions that can make a difference. Hence, we created this short film.”
The film is a digital-only release and stars well-known Maharashtrian actor Chinmay Udgirkar. It was produced by Amaze Productions and conceptualized by DigiChefs. Madhuri Dixit-Nene serves as the brand ambassador for Ram Bandhu’s range of spices, pickles, and papads.
ESFL’s brand portfolio includes Ram Bandhu, RBM, Temptin’, and Zaiqa, all of which are well-loved for their taste, variety, and convenience. The company operates in 14 states across India and has more than half a million retail outlets. Additionally, it exports products to countries such as the US, UK, Canada, Spain, France, New Zealand, Qatar, Dubai, Germany, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
